Coming out of Chicago with a strong background in fine art and studio illustration, Edison Girard pursued editorial and advertising art, illustrating for publications such as Crain’s Business, Playboy, The Atlantic, and National Lampoon magazine. Moving to Philadelphia in 1987, he eventually began designing at Tyco Toys in Mt. Laurel New Jersey, for their games division. After serving as games maven he began assisting other departments at Tyco, including RC vehicles, HO slot cars, action figures and playsets. Being a studio illustrator he also assisted in delivering packaging and label art for creative services.
Relocating back to Chicago in 1995 Edison continued freelancing for Tyco as well as other major toymakers such as; Hasbro/Playskool, Fisher-Price, Mattel, Crayola, Spin Master, Disney Consumer Products, and others, .. in addition to providing innovative toy ideas for regional premiums companies like Simon Marketing and The Marketing Store. He served as Design Manager at Tomy International, overseeing toy lines for Pixar and Disney features. Edison has also created pre-production art for children’s television and video gaming platforms, working for Hit Entertainment, FASA Interactive, DreamWorks, and Nickelodeon.
